FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

‣
How do I book a lesson?

Sign up and we’ll figure out a good date for the first lesson. If you want to book a future date or reserve a reoccurring day of the week, just let me know via text or email.

‣
Who do you coach?

My favorite student is the one who wants to learn.

  • All ages, but most of my coaching experience has been around those 7-12 years old
  • Beginner to 1200 USCF
  • Friendswood, Pearland, League City, Webster, and Alvin, TX
‣
What if I don’t want home lessons?

No worries. We can agree to meet somewhere public. I also offer online lessons for my regular students when over-the-board isn’t possible.

‣
How do you accept payment?

I accept Venmo, Zelle, or cash. If for whatever reason you’re not satisfied with a lesson, I’ll fully refund it.

‣
Do I need a chess set?

I provide all the materials for lessons, but I suggest you get a USCF-approved chess set for home and tournaments. I’ll provide a list of recommendations.

‣
How do I prepare for tournaments?

I’ll provide resources such as rulebooks, materials, proper etiquette, mental preparation, and more. I’ll also share various tips I’ve learned from my own tournament experience. Although I like to make sure my students are “tournament-ready”, if you choose to play anyways, we’ll prepare for it.

‣
Are lessons really worth it?

If you want to improve quickly, then they’re worth it. There’s tons of information and misinformation regarding chess improvement, and I aim to cut through it. I spend hours prepping each lesson to ensure my students focus on the right things. I also develop tailored training plans that provide direction.
